The Lost Bus: America Ferrera Joins Matthew McConaughey in Paul Greengrass Movie

According to Variety, Golden Globe winner America Ferrera has been tapped to star opposite Matthew McConaughey in Apple Original Films’ upcoming drama movie titled The Lost Bus. Production is expected to begin this spring.

Ferrera will be portraying a teacher who must protect her students from a wildfire. This marks Ferrera’s first acting project since the massive success of Greta Gerwig’s live-action Barbie movie. For her performance as Gloria in the fantasy comedy, she is currently nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the upcoming 2024 Academy Awards. Before The Lost Bus, Ferrera also recently signed on for her first directorial feature I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter.

What to expect in The Lost Bus?

“The story centers on Kevin McKay (McConaughey) and Mary Ludwig (Ferrera), a bus driver and teacher who lead a school bus full of young students through the Camp Fire,” reads the synopsis.

The Lost Bus will be directed by Paul Greengrass from a screenplay written by Brad Ingelsby based on Lizzie Johnson’s 2021 book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire about the 2018 California wildfires. It will be produced by Ingelsby, Greg Goodman, Jamie Lee Curtis’ Comet Pictures, and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse, with Lizzie Johnson and Amy Lord serving as executive producers.
