Mini-Review:

I had seen commercials for Reno 911 on Comedy Central, but I had never watched an episode before. The concept for the series is great. Anybody that has seen Cops knows it’s ripe for parody. Rarely do you see such a parade of rednecks, lowlifes, and trash outside of Jerry Springer. Reno 911 makes complete use of the comedy potential. They take things a step further by not only improvising the scenes but occasionally taking turns playing the criminals they bust. The final result is a pretty funny though quite crude series.

If you’ve never seen the show before (like me), then you’ll find the first few episodes are hard to follow. They continue a storyline that left on a cliffhanger from Season Two. However, the rest of the 13 episodes are stand-alone and easy to jump into. It’s those episodes where they seem to be in top form. One particularly amusing episode has the deputies providing security for the cast of CSI.

This DVD is fairly light on the bonus features. A few of the episodes have commentaries. There is also an hour of extended takes from a few of the episodes. You get to see the actors improvise for up to 20 minutes at a time. You’ll also find a few promo commercials that feature fictional action figures of the characters. Also included is an introduction by a couple of the characters discussing their upcoming film Reno 911!: Miami.
