Why Was Gypsy Rose Blanchard In Prison?

In June 2015, the authorities arrested Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, for the murder of Dee Dee Blanchard. The news of her death came out after Dee’s Facebook post read, “That bi**h is dead.” When Dee’s friends saw the post, they alerted the authorities.

One day before their arrest, the police discovered Dee’s body in her house, according to News Nation. The outlet also reported that her body had fatal stab wounds. As per the authorities, Gypsy was nowhere to be seen in the house. It didn’t take much time for the police to track Gypsy and her boyfriend down. Meanwhile, USA Today reported that the authorities arrested the duo on June 15, 2015.

More than a year later, in July 2016, Gypsy took a plea deal and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. As a result, the court sentenced Gypsy Rose Blanchard to 10 years in prison. She didn’t have to stand trial because of the plea deal.

Where is Gypsy Rose Blanchard now?

As mentioned above, Gypsy Rose Blanchard went to prison for 10 years. However, in December 2023, the authorities released Gypsy from the prison after serving just 85% of her sentence. According to the Missouri Department of Corrections, Gypsy served her sentence at the Chillicothe Correctional Center before getting out on December 28. According to People Magazine, the time she spent inside the jail before her actual sentencing is also counted towards her time served.

In 2022, Gypsy Rose Blanchard reportedly married Ryan Scott Anderson while in prison. After getting out, Gypsy told People Magazine that she regrets killing her mother and now wants to aware people about what her mother did. She said, “I regret killing my mom. She didn’t deserve that. She was a sick woman. The choice I made to commit murder was never the right choice. So my mission now is to take what I’ve done and what she did and bring as much awareness as I can.”

Although her current whereabouts are unknown, Gypsy Rose Blanchard now lives with her husband, Ryan Scott Anderson. In 2019, Hulu released an eight-part miniseries titled The Act, which primarily focused on Blanchard’s story. Joey King portrayed Gypsy Rose Blanchard, while Patricia Arquette played Dee Dee Blanchard.
