Melisa Barrera Grateful for Scream Franchise Despite Controversial Exit

Melissa Barrera is still grateful for her time in the Scream franchise despite the ugly way it ended with her exit from it last year.

Barrera Not Bitter About Scream Exit

Barrera spoke to Deadline at Sundance, where she was promoting her new horror film Your Monster.

“I’m just so grateful on what I got to infuse in the franchise, and that’s something I’ll be proud of forever,” said Barrera. She also spoke of a recent reunion with former Scream co-stars, saying “We’re family for life.”

“If we’re ever in the vicinity of each other, we always find each other and that’s what happened at that event,” she continued.

“When we find each other, we just want to spend the night with each other, and nothing is ever going to change that.”

Spyglass Media Group removed the actor from Scream 7 for what it believed was antisemitic behavior on her social media accounts. She responded defiantly on social media.

“I believe a group of people are not their leadership and that no governing body should be above criticism.

“I pray day and night for no more deaths, for no more violence and for peaceful co-existence. I will continue to speak out for those that need it most and continue to advocate for peace and safety, for human rights and freedom.

“Silence is not an option for me.”

Scream 7 also saw Jenna Ortega drop out and director Christopher Landon exit in the aftermath of Barrera’s departure. Spyglass reportedly plans to bring back series stalwart Neve Campbell, who wasn’t in Scream 6 due to a dispute over fair pay.
