Another star from the Scream franchise will not be returning for Scream 7, as Jenna Ortega has dropped out of the horror sequel.
Deadline has reported that Ortega isn’t expected to come back for the next Scream movie. This reportedly has nothing to do with costar Melissa Barrera’s firing yesterday, as the move had apparently been discussed even prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, which began this past July and ended this month.
Rather, this is a result of the actress’ busy upcoming filming schedule. The outlet notes that Ortega is headed to Ireland this coming April to film Wednesday Season 2 for Netflix and still has a few additional days of filming for Beetlejuice 2, which was interrupted by the strike.
What is the status of Scream 7 without Jenna Ortega?
As of now, it’s unclear exactly what the status of the next entry in the Scream franchise is. There’s currently no script or schedule for the next movie in the popular horror series as of late 2023.
Alongside Barrera, the most recent two entries have starred Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding as the four main members of the new era of Scream. With Barrera and Ortega not returning, it seems the group will be fairly different in the next installment.
