Criminal Minds: Evolution: Josh Stewart Not Returning for Paramount+ Reboot

Criminal Minds longtime cast member Josh Stewart says his days of playing Det. William LaMontagne Jr. are “over.” The series veteran announced that he won’t be returning for the second season of the Paramount+ revival series, Criminal Minds: Evolution

Stewart first appeared as a recurring cast member on the second season of the CBS procedural Criminal Minds. The original series ran from 2005 to 2020, spanning 15 seasons. The franchise has also spawned spin-offs, including Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders.

Criminal Minds: Evolution served as an expansion to the original CBS series, which debuted in 2021 on Paramount+. The series revival also saw the return of some veterans, such as Joe Mantegna as David Rossi, A.J. Cook as Jennifer Jareau, Kirsten Vangsness as Penelope Garcia, Paget Brewster as Emily Prentiss, Aisha Tyler as Tara Lewis, Adam Rodriguez as Luke Alvez, and Stewart as William.

However, when a fan asked about his future in the show, Stewart confirmed that his days of playing the character are officially over. You can check out his tweet down below:

What is Criminal Minds: Evolution about?

The first season of the Paramount+ reboot followed the team of criminal profilers, the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU), as they tried to track down a serial killers network that was established during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“An elite team of FBI profilers analyze the country’s most twisted criminal minds, anticipating their next moves before they strike again. The Behavioral Analysis Unit’s most experienced agent is David Rossi, a founding member of the BAU who returns to help the team solve new cases,” reads the synopsis.

Criminal Minds: Evolution is produced by ABC Signature and CBS Studios. No release date has been set yet for Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2.
