Mark Ruffalo Teases Mickey 17 Character: ‘Another F—ing Psychopath’

Mark Ruffalo says he’s playing “another f—ing psychopath” in Bong Joon-ho’s Mickey 17.

Speaking with Deadline, Ruffalo revealed some new details about the character he’s playing in Mickey 17. Along with describing his character as “another f—ing psychopath,” Ruffalo said, “This guy’s like a nasty dictator, fascist, narcissist; we know the type!”

He added, “He’s as bad as any of these a—–s running around today.”

While he may be best known for playing Bruce Banner/The Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ruffalo recently played a scenery-chewing lawyer who largely stands in the way of Emma Stone’s Bella Baxter in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things.

Ruffalo said of the role, “I really didn’t think I could do it. Being a bad person on screen, breaking whatever expectations. It’s such a flashy part and I had never really dug my teeth into anything like that — and man was it freeing and liberating and just joyfully wicked!”

Additionally, Ruffalo has starred in dramas such as 2004’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, 2004’s Collateral, 2007’s Zodiac, 2010’s Shutter Island, 2013’s Begin Again, 2015’s Spotlight, 2019’s Dark Waters, and more.

What do we know about Mickey 17?

Mickey 17 is written, directed and co-produced by Parasite’s Bong Joon-ho. The movie, which is based on the 2022 novel Mickey7 by Edward Ahston, also stars Robert Pattinson, Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, and Toni Collette.

The synopsis for the novel describes the main character as “a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous — even suicidal — the crew turns to Mickey. After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal … and why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it.”

Warner Bros. recently announced that Mickey 17 would no longer be keeping its March 29, 2024, release date. A new release date for the movie has not yet been set.
