The Fall Guy New Image Teases Ryan Gosling’s Stuntman

With a stuntman at the center of the film, expect a heavy emphasis on stunt work in The Fall Guy, David Leitch’s upcoming action comedy starring Ryan Gosling.

Empire Online has released an exclusive image for Universal Pictures’ The Fall Guy, which teases Gosling’s Colt Seavers, a declining stuntman tasked with investigating the disappearance of a famous action star. Gosling is seen hanging off the bottom of a truck with his body a mere inches from the ground.

The Fall Guy is based on the 1980s ABC series of the same name starring Lee Majors, who is expected to make a cameo in the film. Producer Kelly McCormick teased how the film prioritized real action over CGI and how the stunt department pulled off sequences that haven’t been done in over a decade.

“We were doing these huge stunts, like a huge 150-foot fall, which hadn’t happened in about ten years. We did a 250-foot jump over a giant crevasse — I’m not even sure how we achieved that, to be honest! We did a giant cannon roll [flipping a car multiple times] on a beach — that hadn’t been done since, I think, Casino Royale,” McCormick told Empire. “Stunt performers often don’t get to do big stunts anymore, because CG is so good,” she says. “But they went in with dreams and goals and aspirations, and we were able to give them opportunities they hadn’t had in a long time, if at all. It was dream fulfillment. And I think you can see the difference.”

What to Expect in The Fall Guy?

“He’s a stuntman, and like everyone in the stunt community, he gets blown up, shot, crashed, thrown through windows and dropped from the highest of heights, all for our entertainment,” the official synopsis reads. “And now, fresh off an almost career-ending accident, this working-class hero has to track down a missing movie star, solve a conspiracy and try to win back the love of his life while still doing his day job. What could possibly go right?”

Starring alongside Gosling is Emily Blunt as Jody Moreno, Seavers’ ex-girlfriend and the director of the film he’s working on. Additional cast members include Winston Duke, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Hannah Waddingham, Stephanie Hsu, and Teresa Palmer.

The Fall Guy is directed by Leitch from a screenplay by Drew Pearce. Originally scheduled for a March 2024 release, The Fall Guy was pushed to May 3, 2024, a date formerly occupied by Deadpool 3 before it moved to July 2024.
