Amber Heard DCU: Will She Continue To Play Mera in Aquaman 3 & Other Movies?

With Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom approaching its release, fans want to know if Amber Heard will continue to star in Aquaman 3 and other DCU movies as Mera. So, here’s all you need to know about her potential future in James Gunn’s DC Universe.

Will Amber Heard play Mera in Aquaman 3 after The Lost Kingdom?

It’s unlikely for Amber Heard to continue playing Mera after The Last Kingdom as the DCEU is rebooting and Aquaman 3 may not happen at all.

Appearing on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Jason Momoa recently confirmed that Aquaman 2 will be the last DCEU outing. Furthermore, he also teased his retirement from the Arthur Curry role. So, if Aquaman will be recast moving forward, then it’s needless to say that everyone else, including Mera, will also be recast.

During her defamation trial involving her former husband, Johnny Depp, she testified that she had been released from her DC contract. She also stated that a lot of her scenes were cut in the revised version of the Aquaman 2 script.

Former DC head Walter Hamada also stated that her on-screen chemistry with Jason Momoa didn’t work during the first Aquaman, so Heard was preferred to be recast. But she was kept in because of her prior contractual obligation. This also came after the long-running petition to recast Heard.

So, following all that and backlash from her loss during the trial, all signs point to the fact that even if Aquaman 3 were to happen, Heard’s character would be recast in it.

Will Amber Heard continue to play Mera in James Gunn’s DCU movies?

Amber Heard isn’t likely to continue playing Mera in James Gunn’s DCU movies because even Jason Momoa is rumored to be recast as Lobo. So, all the characters from the Aquaman universe might be played by new actors.

Similar to Superman, Lois Lane, Batman, and the Flash, it’s possible for Aquaman to be recast in James Gunn’s DCU. The only leading actors who are confirmed to continue in their old roles are John Cena, Viola Davis, and Xolo Maridueña. All other DC characters are to find fresh faces, and Mera would be included in them.
