Top Gun: The Next Generation Docuseries Set for Nat Geo

Nat Geo will air the docuseries Top Gun: The Next Generation, which follows last year’s massive box success of Top Gun: Maverick and centers around the students of the U.S. Navy’s most elite fighter pilot program, popularized by the Tom Cruise blockbuster.

What’s Top Gun: The Next Generation About?

The series “follows a group of officers as they push their limits on the grueling Advanced Flight Training Program. For the first time ever, they will be embarking on some of the most challenging flight tests possible including landing on an aircraft carrier at sea. The elite nature of the course means that only a minority – the very best – will make it to the top to fly the world’s most advanced jet – the F-35C Lightning II,” per the official description.

Per Variety, the docuseries will include aerial sequences and interviews with the pilots as they go through the program.

Rex, which is part of Zinc Media Group, will produce the series for Nat Geo. The docuseries was created by Karen Edwards, who is also the showrunner. Tanya Shaw, managing director of Zinc Television, serves as executive producer. Lana Salah is the director. Simon Raikes is the commissioning editor for National Geographic. Charlie Parsons is the senior vice president for Development.
