The first winner of America’s Next Top Model reacted with “B—-” to Tyra Banks suing Netflix. The model filed a defamation suit against the platform over a docuseries on the fashion reality series. Not long after, Adrianne Curry’s blunt response instantly went viral among fans, reigniting debate about reality TV ethics dating back to the early 2000s.
Adrianne Curry speaks about Tyra Banks’ Netflix lawsuit
Adrianne Curry has opened up about Tyra Banks‘ legal battle with Netflix, offering fans a raw glimpse into her perspective. Her response came shortly after the ANTM host sued the streaming platform, arguing that Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model misrepresented her show with a misleading edit.
“I read that Tyra Banks is suing Netflix because she didn’t like being edited,” Curry shared on Instagram, putting the word “edited” in air quotes. “Bitch, for real girl?” she added with a laugh, then wrote in the caption, “Welcome to the party, pal.”
The Instagram post quickly drew supportive comments from ANTM fans, with one writing, “Oh Tyra. Sometimes things come full circle. Oh the irony….” “You were the FIRST thought I had readin that headline,” echoed another. “GET HER GIRL,” hyped a supporter.
Per court filings PEOPLE reviewed, Banks wants a jury to decide what’s “appropriate” for damages. She claims the docuseries staged drama and fabricated storylines by cherry-picking edits and omitting key context.
“Tyra Banks participated in the Netflix documentary series America’s Next Top Model (ANTM) because she believed viewers deserved a candid conversation about the show’s legacy — its successes and its shortcomings,” the lawsuit states. “There are aspects of the show for which Ms. Banks takes accountability, and she wanted ANTM viewers to hear that from her directly.”
The complaint adds that her interview footage was edited so it became “stripped of context and reassembled to support a false and defamatory narrative unrelated to what she actually expressed.”
Curry passed on joining the docuseries, but the 43-year-old had previously said that she had “mad respect” for Tyra Banks. The former model also applauded her for “not apologizing” amid the reality show’s drama.
