Kevin Williamson Addresses Neve Campbell's Exclusion From Scream VI: 'Pay Her The Money'

Scream VI Writer Talks Neve Campbell’s Exclusion: ‘Pay Her the Money’

Scream writer Kevin Williamson has opened up about Neve Campbell’s controversial exclusion from Paramount Pictures’ latest installment after the studio offered her a salary that undervalued her massive contribution to the blockbuster franchise.

In an interview at the Happy Horror Time podcast, Williamson expressed support towards Campbell’s decision not to reprise her iconic role as Sidney Prescott in Scream VI. He advised the studio to give Campbell the pay she deserves as the franchise’s long-time hero if they want her character back for the story.

“I know her well. I love and adore her, and that’s what she did, and it’s great for her,” Williamson said (via Deadline). “I love everyone involved with Scream, and all I can say is pay her the money. Yes, you heard it, everyone. That’s what I would do. I would give her that.”

Radio Silence Team will not return for Scream VII

Following the critical and commercial success of Scream VI, Paramount Pictures has officially ordered the development of its follow-up sequel. However, directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet or Radio Silence have decided not to return as the directors for Scream 7 in order to shift their focus on their new horror project with Universal.

Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillet will continue to serve as its executive producers. Replacing them is Happy Death Day filmmaker Christopher Landon, who has signed on to take over the project. Further details about Scream VII are still being kept under wraps. It’s also unclear if Scream VI castmembers Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding would be returning for the sequel.

Scream VI also featured the return of fan favorites Courteney Cox and Hayden Panettiere, who reprised their respective roles as Gale Weathers and Kirby Reed. The latest film was able to earn a worldwide gross of over $160 million at the box office against a reported budget of around $33-35 million.
