The Killer’s Game: Ben Kingsley & Sofia Boutella Join Dave Bautista-Led Action Comedy

According to Deadline, Oscar winner Ben Kingsley and Atomic Blonde actress Sofia Boutella have signed on to star opposite MCU vet Dave Bautista in Lionsgate’s upcoming The Killer’s Game movie. Further details about Kingsley and Boutella’s characters are still being kept under wraps, but Bautista is set for the role of hitman Joe Flood.

The action comedy is expected to begin filming this summer. It has not yet been given a release date by Lionsgate, who recently nabbed the global distribution rights to The Killer’s Game.

What is The Killer’s Game about?

“The film follows veteran assassin Joe Flood, who is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness and authorizes a kill on himself to avoid the pain that is destined to follow,” reads the synopsis. “After ordering the kill, he finds out that he was misdiagnosed and must then fend off the army of former colleagues trying to kill him.”

Based on the novel of the same name by author Jay Bonansinga, The Killer’s Game will be directed by J.J. Perry (Day Shift). The project has been in-development for over two decades, with Bautista attached for the leading role since 2019. Before the Guardian of the Galaxy star landed the role, Hobbs and Shaw’s Jason Statham was originally going to lead the project.

The film is executive produced by Bautista and Jonathan Meisner, with Andrew Lazar, Steven Richards, Scott Lambert, Jake Katofsky and Vanessa Humphrey producing.
