The Rivals of Amziah King: Matthew McConaughey to Lead Crime Thriller

Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey has officially signed on for the leading role in Black Bear International’s upcoming crime thriller, The Rivals of Amziah King. The A-list actor is no stranger to the crime genre, as he previously starred in HBO’s anthology series True Detective Season 1 and the 2018 film White Boy Rick.

“Black Bear is thrilled to partner with our friends at Heyday in supporting the bold creation that will be The Rivals of Amziah King,” Black Bear producer Teddy Schwarzman said in a statement (via Deadline). “Andrew Patterson’s visionary filmmaking and Matthew McConaughey’s extraordinary talent are sure to deliver audiences a truly original and compelling film.”

What to Expect in The Rivals of Amziah King?

The Rivals of Amziah King will be written and directed by Andrew Patterson. Patterson made his feature directorial debut in 2019 with the acclaimed indie sci-fi picture, The Vast of Night. Described as “a deeply atmospheric, character-focused” movie, it is expected to take place against the unique backdrop of remote Oklahoma.

The project is executive produced by Rob Silva, John Friedberg, and Christopher Cassanova, with David Heyman, Teddy Schwarzman, Michael Heimler, Jeffrey Clifford, Will Greenfield and Patterson set as producers. Black Bear Pictures has boarded as its financier.

Besides the upcoming movie, McConaughey is also attached to lead Taylor Sheridan’s upcoming Yellowstone spin-off and an untitled comedy for Apple TV+, which will reunite him with True Detective co-star Woody Harrelson. He recently lent his voice to Netflix’s animated series Agent Elvis, in which he played the King of Rock ‘n Roll.
