Shazam DCU Future Rumor Debunked by James Gunn: ‘No LOL Jesus’

Director and DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn has debunked another DC Universe rumor involving the Shazam DCU future.

A Twitter user asked Gunn about a rumor that states that Zachary Levi has been “booted” from the role of Shazam. According to the rumor, Levi was being replaced by Alan Ritchson. The clarify the state of the Shazam DCU future, Gunn wasted no time in dispelling the rumor, replying with, “no lol jesus.”

Ritchson has appeared in series like Blue Mountain State and Reacher, though he also has quite a history with DC. The actor portrayed Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the CW series Smallville between 2005 and 2010. After that, he played Hank Hall/Hawk in Titans, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow.

The DC Universe’s first phase, called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, will feature a multitude of different movies and television shows. A few of the announced projects include a Batman and Robin-focused movie called The Brave and the Bold, a Supergirl movie titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Swamp Thing film, and multiple TV shows.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods was directed by David F. Sandberg (Annabelle: Creation) from a screenplay written by Shazam! scribe Henry Gayden. It was produced by DC Studios Co-CEO Peter Safran. The film is now available to watch in theaters, as well as available to purchase digitally.
