Rey Skywalker Star Wars Movie Announced

An untitled Star Wars movie was announced at today’s Star Wars Celebration event by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, with Daisy Ridley‘s Rey Skywalker being the lead protagonist.

The movie is the same secretive Star Wars title that is being directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel). It was recently revealed that Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight will write it. Knight has also written 2018’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web and 2021’s Spencer.

Ridley last appeared in the sci-fi universe as the lead in Star Wars: The Rise of the Skywalker, which she described as her favorite filming experience.

“So I felt very comfortable, and I really made an effort to be present every day. And it was my favorite filming experience for that reason because I was really taking in everything, and none of the joy and excitement had gone. So I felt like I could breathe a little easier. I mean, I loved all of them, but it was nice to really be in my body for that last filming experience.”

Quite a few Star Wars projects are currently on the horizon, including the Disney+ series AhsokaThe Acolyte, and Skeleton Crew. The third season of The Mandalorian is currently releasing weekly on the streaming platform, while the video game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is nearing its April 28 release date.
