James Gunn’s Superman Movie Gets New Plot Details

Director and co-CEO of DC Studios James Gunn recently revealed that he was writing a new Superman movie and that Henry Cavill wouldn’t be in it. Now the filmmaker has given more information on what to expect from the upcoming feature.

In a series of tweets replying to a Twitter user, Gunn once again reiterated why Cavill would not be in his Superman film, while also explaining that, while featuring a younger Superman, wouldn’t be an origin story. Instead, Gunn said, Superman will know a lot of the people in his life already when the movie occurs — he’ll just be a younger version of himself in the process.

Gunn also took some time to reply to those who questioned why he was no longer moving forward with Cavill in the lead role at all. In one particular reply, a fan said they didn’t understand why Gunn would have such “cold indifference” to letting Cavill go. Gunn replied saying that it was anything but cold, that he’d spoken to Cavill multiple times since their “very open and honest and respectful discussion” and that the two are “all good.”

While not too much is known about Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, we do know that it’s set to feature a younger Superman in the role. In a recent report from Variety, this was expanded upon a bit, with the report noting that the script will “focus on Superman’s life as a cub reporter in the fictional city of Metropolis.”

The report went on to mention that he will meet key characters in the film, including colleague Lois Lane, among others.
