The Swimmers Trailer Highlights Two Syrian Refugees’ Olympic Dreams

Netflix has released the official trailer for The Swimmers, the upcoming biographical drama centered around two young women’s gripping journey towards achieving their Olympic dreams. The film is scheduled to arrive in select theaters on November 11, followed by its streaming debut on November 23.

Based on a true story, The Swimmers is directed by Sally El Hosaini from a screenplay she co-wrote with multi-award-winning screenwriter and playwright Jack Thorne. The film stars Nathalie Issa, Manal Issa, Matthias Schweighöfer, Ahmed Malek, James Krishna Floyd, Nahel Tzegai, Kinda Alloush, and Ali Suliman.

“The film follows the journey from war-torn Syria to the 2016 Rio Olympics,” reads the synopsis. “Two young sisters embark on a harrowing journey as refugees, putting both their hearts and champion swimming skills to heroic use.”

The Swimmers is produced by Working Title’s Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner, alongside Ali Jaafar and Tim Cole with Stephen Daldry, Katherine Pomfret, and Tilly Coulson executive producing.
