The 2009 epic adventure is scheduled to make its return to theaters for a two-week limited engagement starting on September 23.

Avatar was written and directed by Academy Award winning filmmaker James Cameron, who also produced along with Jon Landau. The film won three Oscars out of nine nominations, including Best Cinematography, Production Design, and Visual Effects.

Its upcoming sequel, titled Avatar: Way of the Water, will feature the return of Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald, and Sigourney Weaver. The long-in-development film will finally make its theatrical release on later this year on December 16.

“Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure,” says the official synopsis.
