Ghostbusters VR Announced for Virtual Reality Headsets

Ghostbusters VR Confirmed for PS VR2, Immersive VR Experience Announced

Sony is continuing its dedication to virtual reality with news of two new Ghostbusters projects. The first is the previously announced Ghostbusters VR adding PlayStation VR2 to its list of platforms alongside Meta Quest 2. The game is currently in the works at developer nDreams, which previously worked on well-received VR titles like Phantom: Covert Ops and Fracked. It still has no release window.

Taking place in San Francisco, Ghostbusters VR will allow a single buster or a co-op group that ain’t afraid of no ghost to uncover “a deep mystery across a new chapter in the Ghostbusters universe.” Whatever the final title of the game ends up being, it will be the third to represent the film series in traditional VR headsets following the poorly received Ghostbusters is Hiring series. These games have been removed from most digital storefronts in the years since their release, so hopefully Ghostbusters VR can satiate those who can no longer buy those older titles.

For more immersive Ghostbusters adventures, fans will soon be able to answer the call at 400 Hologate entertainment centers worldwide. Ghostbusters VR Academy will have groups of trainees learning the ropes with a proton pack, flying through the air in a hover converted Ecto-1, and teaming up with other patrons for a full-on mission against attacking phantoms. It will release by the end of 2022.

VR Academy will also have two variations: Arena and Blitz. Arena will take players through an academy and have them work together to take down ghosts. Blitz will have players race prototype Ecto vehicle and compete to see who is the fastest.

Built like high-tech laser tag, Hologate already hosts experiences based on Angry Birds and Slugterra as well as several known VR IPs and original works. It’s unclear if these two Ghostbusters VR projects will be cut from the same cloth, but it’s clear that would be Egons will have plenty of opportunity to try their hand at spectral management in the near future.
