TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge Includes Pizza Hut Coupon Zapped in From the NES Era

Turtles fans are feasting in more ways than one this year. Not only will they get to enjoy both the brand new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge and an extensive rerelease collection from Digital Eclipse, but they also may get a free Pizza Hut pizza as part of the deal. Those who purchase Shredder’s Revenge on a physical disc through distributor Limited Run Games will get the same style of coupon that was included in NES copies of TMNT 2: The Arcade Game.

According to LRG owner Josh Fairhurst, it took around 300 cold emails to eventually strike up a business relationship with Yum! Brands. He also mentioned that the coupon is limited to the United States, a compromise that was necessary considering how hard it must have been to even get Pizza Hut to give Limited Run the time of day. However, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge still doesn’t have a concrete release date, so it’s unclear exactly when users will be able to take advantage of this deal.

The heroes in a half-shell have always been proponents of pizza both in the universe and in the realm of commercials, although their favorite brand has changed from time to time. The 1990 live-action movie had the foursome ordering from Domino’s, but their rivals at Pizza Hut secured the team for most of the rest of their golden era. This includes in-store promotions like the classic Coming Out of Their Shells Tour and a host of video game tie-ins.

The TMNT news comes as part of LRG3, one of the many gaming showcases scheduled for early June in the wake of E3’s no-show. In addition a smattering of physical releases of old titles, the event also revealed that a physical rerelease of two Bill & Ted retro games was on the way and showed LRG’s continued commitment to reintroducing Plumbers Don’t Wear Ties into the world.
