Mysterious The Batman Poster Leads Fans to Riddler Website

An ARG (alternate reality game) for Warner. Bros’ upcoming The Batman film seems to be underway, with fans discovering a Riddler website dedicated to the movie that continues to update with new clues.

Earlier this week, fans noted that a certain display for The Batman set up in movie theaters had messages at the bottom of them. After combining the letters on the display with letters previously found in a past trailer for The Batman, fans were able to piece together a message that read: “You are El Rata Alada,” which translates to “You are the winged rat” in English. From there, a website, rataalada.com, was discovered.

At first, the website had nothing on it but a green question mark, but after director Matt Reeves shared a new image for the upcoming film on Monday, the site updated, this time with a series of riddles being written for players to discover. The answers to those riddles are:

  • “Those who make me are likely to break me” — Law
  • “I can be easy or a dead end. Careful when you cross me.”— Street
  • “What’s black and blue and dead all over?” — Batman

Getting all three correct will deliver players what looks to be a fake police sketch of Batman himself, while a second reward is available if you return to the site after having completed the first three riddles. This reward gives players another image this time with the message “Stay vigilant” included in a ciphered text, with The Riddler promising to update again in the future.

The world of Batman films is no stranger to ARG’s, with Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight receiving a massive one that stretched from 2007-2008, and even included in-person meetings and more. While it’s unlikely that The Batman’s ARG will end up being that big, fans are excited to have something to dive into while they wait for the highly anticipated film to launch next year.

Joining Pattinson are Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as GCPD’s James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gotham D.A. Gil Colson, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Ferrell as Oswald Cobblepot/ Penguin. The Batman will also feature Barry Keoghan, Jayme Lawson, Alex Ferns, and twins Max and Charlie Carver.
