Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Adds Garfield

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Adds Garfield as Playable Fighter

One of the most iconic cartoon cats is set to join the roster of Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, as publisher GameMill Entertainment and developer Ludosity have announced that Garfield is entering the platform fighter. The classic character from the iconic Jim Davis comic strips will join the game on December 9 on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation as a free downloadable character. Switch owners have to wait a little longer, but that specific date has not been revealed.

Garfield can be seen in the announcement video wielding a variety of foods as weapons, as well as utilizing his burps and tail as a means to attack. Garfield’s introduction comes after Ludosity previously announced that Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl would be receiving two free characters as well as a handful of paid downloadable characters in the future. With Garfield now officially in the game, the roster grows to an impressive 21 characters, including:

Garfield’s inclusion isn’t a surprise to some. The game was thoroughly datamined after launch, showing a whole host of possible DLC characters. The datamine did show Garfield as well as Rocko from Rocko’s Modern Life, Shredder and Donatello from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Tommy Pickles and Chuckie Finster from Rugrats, Prince Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender, Vlad Plasmius from Danny Phantom, Mr. Krabs, Squidward, and Plankton from SpongeBob SquarePants, Cindy Vortex and Jimmy Neutron from Jimmy Neutron, and Eliza and Donnie Thornberry from The Wild Thornberries.

Having the real Garfield mixed in with unconfirmed leaks does give the others more legitimacy. However, Ludosity’s Thaddeus Crews said on the game’s Discord server that everything was “explicitly meant for [the core game].” He said this was meant to be in the game just in case those characters did make it in and is not the “be-all-end-all confirmations of what can and cannot happen.” But he said that in October and adding in Garfield does somewhat go against his point without fully nullifying it (yet at least).
