Ray Fisher Addresses Cyborg’s Removal From The Flash Movie

The premiere of Zack Snyder’s Justice League was a huge triumph for everyone who kept the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement alive. But in the case of Cyborg actor Ray Fisher, its release is bittersweet. Earlier this year, Fisher confirmed that he won’t reprise his role in Warner Bros.’ The Flash movie as planned. His removal was likely a result of his months-long war of words against WarnerMedia over how he and his co-stars were treated on the Justice League set after Joss Whedon took over directing duties. In other words, the Snyder Cut could be the last time he’ll suit up as Victor Stone onscreen. And while appearing on the LightCast podcast, Fisher revealed how long the studio was planning to include him in the Scarlet Speedster’s first standalone film (via SuperHeroHype).

During the interview, Fisher was asked about recent comments he made suggesting that Rick Famuyiwa would be a good choice to direct a standalone Cyborg movie. As a side note, Famuyiwa was hired to direct The Flash in 2016. He also cast Kiersey Clemons as Iris West before she filmed her cameo in Snyder’s Justice League. However, Famuyiwa’s involvement with the DCEU was short-lived. He stepped away from the film due to creative differences with the studio. But even at this stage of The Flash’s production, Cyborg was meant to have a supporting role.

“As far as I’m aware, there’s never been a version of The Flash film that did not have Cyborg present in it,” said Fisher. “And for Rick’s part, I think his specific perspective would be great for Cyborg to really explore and for us to explore Cyborg’s solo film. Not just from the action side, because his stories actually have a lot of heart and they have a lot of meaning.”

Despite his issues with Justice League’s producers, Fisher seemed excited to reunite with Ezra Miller. In fact, he even discussed the nature of his role with The Flash director, Andy Muschietti, as recently as a year ago.

“I will say that I had a great conversation with Andy Muschietti last year,” said Fisher. “The script as it stood and the things that we talked about at that time seemed really awesome. I wish them the best.”

The Flash hits theaters on November 4, 2022.
