Nathan Fillion Returns To ABC As The Rookie

Nathan Fillion Returns to ABC as The Rookie

Nearly two years after the cancellation of his previous crime-comedy-drama with the network, Nathan Fillion will return to ABC to star in the titular role of the upcoming similar-genred series, The Rookie. Though no release date has been set yet, the first teaser for the series just released today, which you can view below.

Starting over isn’t easy, especially for small-town guy John Nolan who, after a life-altering incident, is pursuing his dream of being an LAPD officer. As the force’s oldest rookie, he’s met with skepticism from some higher-ups who see him as just a walking midlife crisis. If he can’t keep up with the young cops and the criminals, he’ll be risking lives including his own. But if he can use his life experience, determination and sense of humor to give him an edge, he may just become a success in this new chapter of his life.

The series will star Fillion as Nolan, Alyssa Diaz (Ray Donovan) as Angela Lopez, Richard T. Jones (Wisdom of the Crowd) as Sgt. Wade Grey, Mercedes Mason (Fear the Walking Dead) as Captain Zoe Anderson, Afton Williamson (The Night Of) as Talia Bishop, Melissa O’Neil (Dark Matter) as Lucy Chen, and Eric Winter (Witches of East End) as Tim Bradford.

The pilot shot back in March on location in Los Angeles, as well as New York. The series marks Fillion’s seventh collaboration with ABC on a series, beginning with recurring roles on One Life to Live, Spin City and Two Guys and a Girl in the ’90s and continuing with a recurring role on Desperate Housewives before landing the starring role of Castle, which ran for eight seasons before being cancelled. Fillion can most recently be seen in the second season of Netflix’s Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, which released March 30.
