Mitch Pileggi Confirms a Return to The X-Files

Though star David Duchovny revealed earlier this month that he would be returning for the upcoming revival, “The X-Files” star Mitch Pileggi confirmed on Twitter today that he’ll be back as Walter Skinner.

Pileggi made his debut appearance as Assistant Director Skinner in Episode 20 of the show and would go on to appear in 81 episodes of the nine season series.

“The X-Files” is set to return on FOX as a limited event series with production slated to begin this summer. Stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are set to re-inhabite their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Previous reports also indicate that William B. Davis’ Cigarette-Smoking Man and Annabeth Gish and Robert Patrick’s special agents Monica Reyes and John Doggett are also set to return, but this hasn’t been confirmed.

“The X-Files” originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny) as they investigate unexplained cases – “X-Files” – for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.
