Banishment?

Disenchantment Season 1 Episode 5

King Zog had banished Bean from the kingdom, after her many drunken misdeeds, and was sent to Our Lady of Many Chastities. Bean tried her best to fit in with the nuns. Sadly, she struggled with prayers and at dinner, so the nuns sent her back to the castle. Zog decided to banish Bean from the castle once again until she learned how to behave. Bean ended up living with her personal maid, Bunty.

At Bunty’s, Bean was informed that all of Bunty’s children get jobs once they are able to walk. So, Bean decided that she needed to get a job. Bean started off as a sheep herder, but ended up driving all of the sheep off of a cliff. She then tried her hand at running a lighthouse and allowed all of the ships to crash into the rocks below. Finally, she helped out at a pet shop, but mistakenly believed it to be a butchery.

Bean returned to Bunty’s house dejected after her failures. Bunty’s husband offered her a job as his apprentice. He is the royal executioner and his previous assistant had gone missing. Bean happily accepted this new and exciting job. In the torture chamber, Bean quickly showed off her aptitude for torturing prisoners. As she attempted to get a man’s last meal order, she refused all of his selections, effectively frustrating him to the point of complete torture.

The Executioner’s Song

Back at Bunty’s house, she had taken a strong liking to treating Elfo like a baby, Elfo managed to escape from Bunty’s grasp and fled into the forest.

Bean attempted to talk to a recently captured witch who was accused of kidnapping and murdering many people, unfortunately the witch was only able to cackle. The executioner pulled a back muscle while working and Bean was promoted to be the executioner for the day and was sent to execute the witch. Outside of the castle, Bean couldn’t bring herself to kill the witch, so she was fired. Bean ran off into the forest, angry with herself for being such a  failure. Luci accompanied her and they began to follow Elfo’s tracks deeper into the forest.

Not Grimm Enough

Disenchantment Season 1 Episode 5

Within the forest, Elfo had come across a giant house made out of candy. The owners of the house, Hansel and Gretel, welcomed Elfo into their home with open arms. Hansel and Gretel offered Elfo some candy, coated with sleeping powder, in order to subdue him. They then stuck him in the oven to cook him for dinner, because Hansel and Gretel love to eat creatures made of meat.

Hansel and Gretel began to cook Elfo, but Bean arrived in time to save Elfo from being completely cooked. Hansel and Gretel ran away through their house, but Bean, Elfo, and Luci gave chase. Eventually Bean was cornered and confronted by the brother-and-sister pair. Bean managed to kill both Hansel and Gretel with a giant axe made out of a candy cane. This freed the imprisoned witch from her curse and she could now speak words instead of just cackling.

The group returned to Dreamland and cleared the witch of all charges. Bean was reinstated as princess and allowed to return to the castle, while Zog awarded himself the award for extraordinary parenting.
