Trailer and Poster for Chernobyl Diaries!

As promised yesterday, the trailer for Chernobyl Diaries has made its premiere – along with a one-sheet – and, surprisingly, it does not look entirely like a “found footage” film.  It appears to incorporate some elements, however.

Based on a story by Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity, The River),  the film follows a group of six young tourists who, looking to go off the beaten path, hire an “extreme tour” guide. Ignoring warnings, he takes them into the city of Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, but a deserted town since the disaster more than 25 years ago. After a brief exploration of the abandoned city, however, the group soon finds themselves stranded, only to discover that they are not alone.

The film is based on an original story by Peli and follows a group of friends who become stranded in an eerie and desolate city. Oren Peli’s Chernobyl Diaries Hitting Memorial Day Weekend

Oren Peli’s latest venture, The Chernobyl Diaries, has found distribution in Warner Bros.

The release is possible thanks to Alcon Entertainment’s acquisition of the thriller and the output deal the company has with Warner.

Variety says the film will hit theaters this Memorial Day weekend, which puts the film right into the summer movie fray.  This is the first we have heard of the film’s official title.  When titles rolled last November, it was merely referenced as the “Untitled Oren Peli Project.”
