I hadn’t even heard of About Ray until over the weekend when it was revealed The Weinstein Co. had set the film for a Sept 18 release while at the same time delaying their animated feature Underdogs, which was slated to hit theaters this weekend, yet again. That said, not only will About Ray arrive in just over one month, the Weinsteins have released the first trailer for the transgender drama starring Elle Fanning, Naomi Watts, Susan Sarandon, Tate Donovan and Sam Trammell.
Fanning stars as the title character, a teenager who has come to the realization she isn’t meant to be a girl and has decided to transition from female to male. Ray’s single mother, Maggie (Watts), biological father (Donovan) and grandmother, Dolly (Sarandon), must all deal with the situation in their own way and confront their own issues in order to ultimately find acceptance and understanding.
