With the film landing in select theaters and also hitting iTunes and On Demand today, ComingSoon.net has an exclusive look at Erik Skjoldbjærg’s new conspiracy thriller, Pioneer. Check out an explosive clip from the film in the player below.
Set in the early ’80s, during the beginning of the Norwegian Oil Boom, Pioneer stars Wes Bentley (The Hunger Games, American Beauty) Stephen Lang (Avatar, The Men who Stare at Goats), Aksel Hennie (Headhunters, Hercules) and Stephanie Sigman (Miss Bala, Río de oro).
The story begins when enormous oil and gas deposits are discovered in the North Sea. The authorities aim to bring the oil ashore through a pipeline from depths of 500 meters. A professional diver, Petter, obsessed with reaching the bottom of the Norwegian Sea, has the discipline, strength and courage to take on the world’s most dangerous mission. But a sudden, tragic accident changes everything. Petter is sent on a perilous journey where he loses sight of who’s pulling the strings. Gradually he realizes that he is in way over his head and that his life is at stake.
Skjoldbjærg is best known for directing 1997’s Insomnia, remade five years later by Christopher Nolan. Pioneer itself is also headed for an American remake with George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures having secured the rights earlier this year.
