Robert Downey Jr. Sustains Ankle Injury on Iron Man 3 Set

Production on Iron Man 3 was temporarily halted today due to an on-set injury to the film’s leading man. Marvel Studios’ official statement on the matter reads as follows:

Robert Downey Jr. sustained an ankle injury on the set of Iron Man 3 in Wilmington, North Carolina while performing a stunt. There will be a short delay in the production schedule while he recuperates.

Thankfully, the injury sounds to be relatively minor and the delay should be minimal. We’ll update as soon as production resumes.

Written and directed by Shane Black (and co-written by Drew Pearce), Iron Man 3 also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, James Badge Dale and Ashley Hamilton. It is planned to hit theaters on May 3, 2013.
