Entertainment Weekly is reporting that The Hobbit star Richard Armitage and “The Walking Dead” star Sarah Wayne Callies have joined director Steven Quale’s found footage action film Category Six (AKA “untitled tornado thriller”) at New Line Cinema.
Armitage will play a widowed father who, with the help of storm chasers, tries to rescue his son from the aftermath of a string of tornadoes.
The title is a reference to the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, which ranks the potential damage that can be done by hurricanes. Though the scale only goes through five, some scientists have recently argued that the list should be amended to include category six, which would mark the most catastrophic of storms.
Shooting is set to start on July 23 in Detroit.
