MGM to Animate Punk Farm

MGM looks to be getting back into the animation game for the first time since 1989’s All Dogs Go to Heaven as they’ve picked up the rights to adapt Jarrett J. Krosoczka’s children’s book Punk Farm into an animated film with The Simpsons Movie director David Silverman at the helm.

Scripted by Jim Hecht (Ice Age: the Meltdown) and David Stern, it will be only MGM’s second in-house project since reemerging from their bankruptcy with Prana Animation Studios handling the animation.

The story revolves around five barnyard animals who form an underground rock band.

Besides directing and producing episodes of “The Simpsons” television series, Silverman was also a co-director on Disney•Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. and director of The Road to El Dorado.
