Deadline is reporting that 14-year-old Oscar-nominee Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) is attached to star in a Sleeping Beauty adaptation that is currently being shopped to studios.
According to the article, writer Lindsay Devlin’s script is told from Princess Aurora’s viewpoint. Just like the fairy tale, Aurora will be cursed by the wicked witch. What’s new in this version, however, is that we will follow her into the dream world which she has to try to escape from. Sounds a bit more complicated than just a kiss from Prince Phillip.
Another Sleeping Beauty project is in development at Disney called Maleficent, which Tim Burton is attached to direct with Angelina Jolie circling for the title role.
