Tupper and Gregg Joining Mr. Popper’s Penguins

James Tupper (“Men in Trees”) and Clark Gregg (“Iron Man” films, “The New Adventures of Old Christine”) have joined the cast of Fox family comedy Mr. Popper’s Penguins.

The film, directed by Mark Waters from a script by Sean Anders, John Morris and Nick Stoller, stars Jim Carrey and Carla Gugino.

In the movie, based on the 1938 children’s book, Mr. Popper is a house painter whose dreams of Arctic exploration prompt him to write letters to real explorers. One of them sends him a penguin, which he keeps in the icebox. Before he knows it, the painter has a litter of 12 beaked birds. They eat voraciously, leading him to form Popper’s Performing Penguins, a stage act that goes on tour and creates mayhem at every stop.

Tupper is playing Rick, the eco-fanatic boyfriend of Popper’s ex-wife Amanda (Gugino). Gregg will play Nat Jones, a no-nonsense guy from the New York Zoo. Ophelia Lovibond, Philip Baker Hall and Andrew Stewart-Jones also star.

Mr. Popper’s Penguins hits theaters on August 12.
