Kris Kristofferson Joins Dolphin Tale 3D

Kris Kristofferson has joined the cast of Dolphin Tale 3D, according to a report at Variety.

Kristofferson, known for his singer/songwriter career in addition to dozens of onscreen credits (ranging from 1973’s Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid to 2009’s He’s Just Not That Into You) will play the owner of an understaffed aquarium and father to Harry Connick Jr.’s character.

The film is inspired by the true story of a dolphin named Winter who, after losing her tail, is rescued by a young boy. Thanks to the efforts of the local aquarium, Winter is given a prosthetic tail, enabling her to survive.

Dolphin Tale 3D is also set to star Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman as well Winter, playing herself. It is scheduled for release on September 16, 2011.
