Amityville: The Awakening is a revival of the popular franchise and a modern twist on the classic horror film. In the film, Belle and her family move into a new house, but when strange phenomena begin to occur in the house, Belle begins to suspect her Mother isn’t telling her everything and soon realizes they just moved into the infamous Amityville house.

Amityville: The Awakening stars Oscar nominee Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight, Anamolisa, Single White Female), Bella Thorne (“Scream,” “Shake It Up”) and up and comer Cameron Monaghan (“Shameless,” The Giver).

The last film in the franchise, a remake of The Amityville Horror, was released in 2005 and starred Ryan Reynolds, Melissa George and Chloe Grace Moretz. It opened in the month of April and grossed an estimated $65 million domestically and over $100 million worldwide.

The first adaptation of Jay Anson’s novel – an account of the Lutz family’s time at 112 Ocean Avenue – came in 1979 and was followed by Amityville II: The Possession, Amityville 3-D and five more installments until the remake came along.

Amityville: The Awakening is produced by Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions (The Purge, Insidious, Paranormal Activity).
