Universal’s Battlestar Galactica Reboot Enlists New Producers

Battlestar Galactica reboot adds new producers

Back in 2014, it was revealed that Universal Pictures was keen to reboot the popular series Battlestar Galactica for the big screen, but little progress has been made on the project until now. The Tracking Board brings word that producer Michael De Luca (Fifty Shades of Grey, The Social Network) has boarded the film with The Hollywood Reporter adding he will be teaming up with Scott Stuber (Ted, Battleship) and Dylan Clark (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) of Bluegrass Films.

Universal is reportedly seeking to turn the film into an event franchise, but currently no writers are attached to the project.

A Battlestar Galactica reboot was set to be directed by Bryan Singer (X-Men, X-Men: Days of Future Past) but that project never materialized and Singer is no longer associated with the reboot. Transcendence scribe Jack Paglen previously turned in a draft of the script, though it would seem an all-new script will be penned when a new writer is hired.

“Battlestar Galactica” was originally created by Glen A. Larson and began with the TV series in 1978, followed by a brief sequel TV series, “Galactica: 1980” two years later. Ronald D. Moore and David Eick launched a rebooted television version in 2004, while a prequel to that series, titled “Caprica,” debuted in 2010, followed by a webseries, “Blood & Chrome,” in 2012.
