J.C. Chandor to Remake German Thriller The Robber

Just this morning, we reported that Johnny Depp was circling J.C. Chandor’s next directorial assignment Triple Frontier, and now Variety reports that the Academy Award-nominated writer and director behind Margin Call, All Is Lost and A Most Violent Year has another project waiting in the wings in the form of The Robber.

A remake of Benjamin Heisenberg’s German movie Der Rauber, the story follows an elite marathon runner who uses his races as a cover to pull off bank heists.

“Growing the scope and scale of Benjamin’s extremely original film into a kinetic, elevated action-thriller is exciting for us to undertake with our new partners in Europe and our friends at FilmNation,” Dodson said. “We’ll be using the film, the novella and the true story it’s based on to make a smart, fast-paced and extremely entertaining movie”

Chase Palmer (Stephen King’s IT) will adapt the screenplay, while Neal Dodson, Anna Gerb and Chandor will produce the film, with FilmNation financing and handling worldwide distribution rights.
