RealD Delivers Over 50% of Domestic Avatar Gross

In the largest theatrical 3D film release to date, RealD announced today that theaters equipped with RealD’s 3D cinema technology brought in nearly $40 million of the total domestic box office generated by 20th Century Fox’s Avatar, which debuted at #1 during its opening weekend, earning more than $242.5 million worldwide. The box office generated in theaters with RealD technology accounted for over 50% of the total weekend’s receipts.

Lewis, Chairman and CEO of RealD. “This landmark weekend with over half of the box office coming from RealD-equipped theaters demonstrates that audiences have both discovered and are becoming loyal fans of RealD’s new generation of 3D.”

RealD counts among its partners 19 of the world’s top 20 exhibitors with an industry-leading 9,500 screens under contract and 4,800 screens installed in 48 countries with 300 exhibition partners.
