First Paranoid Pictures from Richard Ayoade’s ‘The Double’ with Eisenberg and Wasikowska

I have not yet seen Richard Ayoade‘s Submarine. I know, I’m missing out. I’ve always meant to watch it and seeing how it’s on Netflix Instant I don’t really have much of an excuse, and with his new film, The Double set to make its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival I think I better catch up because this one sounds great.

Here’s the plot:

Simon (Jesse Eisenberg) is a timid man, scratching out an isolated existence in an indifferent world. He is overlooked at work, scorned by his mother, and ignored by the woman of his dreams. The arrival of a new co-worker, James, serves to upset the balance. James is both Simon’s exact physical double and his opposite — confident, charismatic and good with women. To Simon’s horror, James slowly starts taking over his life.

The plot is written as if it’s a paranoid thriller, but I’m expecting more of a paranoid comedy considering it’s an Ayoade film, but nevertheless, this first batch of five pictures from the film suggests the comedy may be slim and I have no problem with that.

Along with Eisenberg the film co-stars Mia Wasikowska, Wallace Shawn and Noah Taylor.
