Nearly 27 years since Tim Burton and Michael Keaton first teamed together for the comedy Beetlejuice, the movie is as popular as ever as new people discover the quirky mix of light comedy and family-friendly horror.
On top of that, Michael Keaton has been having a bit of a resurgence in the past year, starring in RoboCop, Need for Speed and giving what many think is an Oscar-worthy performance in Alejandro Inarritu’s Birdman. It seemed like now would be a great time for Keaton and Burton to reunite for a sequel to the movie which they’ve discussed a lot in recent years.
When ComingSoon.net spoke with director Tim Burton for his upcoming flick Big Eyes earlier today, we asked if he had seen Birdman yet (he hasn’t) as well as trying to get some sort of update on the long-discussed sequel to Beetlejuice.
You can watch Burton’s response in the video player below, but he essentially told us:
“It’s a character that I love and I miss and I miss actually working with Michael. There’s only one Betelgeuse. We’re working on a script and I think it’s probably closer than ever and I’d love to work with him again.”
Look for the rest of our interview with Burton and the cast of Big Eyes before its release on Christmas Day.
