Ricky Gervais is heading back to “The Office.” The BBC today announced that Gervais will reprise his iconic role as David Brent for Life on the Road, a feature film spinoff, which will follow Brent’s life 15 years after the end of the “documentary” series.
“We find out what Brent is doing now and what’s happened in the last 15 years since his redundancy from his beloved Wernham Hogg,” reads the official statement. “He’s a sales rep now, selling cleaning products up and down the country, but has never really given up on his dream of being a rock star.”
Production on Life on the Road is expected to begin in 2015.
Since the series ended with a pair of Christmas specials in 2003, Gervais has reprised the Brent role a few times. He played Brent on two episodes of the American version of “The Office” and, just last year, put together a ten-minute short film titled “The Return of Brent.” Designed for the UK charity “Comic Relief,” the film runs about ten minutes and can be viewed in the player below:
