Image Entertainment and The Film Arcade have co-acquired the $25 million fantasy-action film The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.

The film is based on the best-selling novel “Mariah Mundi and the Midas Box” by G.P. Taylor. Directed by Jonathan Newman, the film stars Michael Sheen (Frost/Nixon, The Twilight Saga), Lena Headey (“Game of Thrones,” 300), Sam Neill (Jurassic Park, “The Tudors”), Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic Four) and Aneurin Barnard (“The White Queen”).

Ancient mysteries. Powerful evil. And a fearless hero’s quest through a fantastical realm of steam-powered wonders and sinister magic… In The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box, seventeen-year-old Mariah Mundi’s life is turned upside down when his parents vanish and his younger brother is kidnapped. Following a trail of clues to the darkly majestic Prince Regent Hotel, Mariah discovers a hidden realm of child-stealing monsters, deadly secrets and a long-lost artifact that grants limitless wealth – but also devastating supernatural power. With the fate of his world, and his family at stake, Mariah will risk everything to unravel the Curse of the Midas Box!

“With the novel’s strong following, there’s no doubt that The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box will be a hit with fans and general audiences alike,” says Bromiley. “The film takes moviegoers on a fantastical ride that will entertain every generation of the family.”

“Image Entertainment and The Film Arcade have proven that they can work with the Producers as a team,” said Exec Producer and Dreamcatchers manager, Marina Fuentes. “This was something essential for us. We believe that their highly professional teams will make a splash with this entertaining family film in the US market.”

The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box will premiere on Ultra-VOD in Q4 2013 followed by a theatrical release in Los Angeles, New York and major markets across the country. The Film Arcade will take the film out theatrically, with Image Entertainment handling all other rights.

The Adventurer: The Curse of the Midas Box was produced by Karl Richards, Ibon Cormenzana, Ignasi Estapé and Peter Bevan.
