Scottish actor Ewan McGregor is regularly one of the busiest actors working, often having two or three of his movies being released within months of each other, as is the case this year, with Salmon Fishing in the Yemen being his third movie released this year.
Based on the best-selling novel by Paul Towdry, it was adapted by Oscar winner Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionare, The Full Monty) and directed by Lasse Halström (Dear John, Chocolat), with McGregor playing Dr. Albert Jones, a government fisheries scientist persuaded into helping Emily Blunt’s enthusiastic rep of a wealthy sheik into trying to figure out a way of making salmon fishing possible in the arid environment of the Middle East. (If there was a “Truth in Advertising” award given out for a movie’s title, this one would win it in a flash!)
ComingSoon.net had a chance to talk with Ewan McGregor about the movie earlier this week. He told us how he got involved and prepared for the role by learning how to fly fish, working with Lasse Halström and Emily Blunt in a movie that mixes comedy and drama. We also chatted briefly about some of his upcoming projects and quickly asked if he heard anything about Danny Boyle potentially doing Porno, the long-planned sequel to McGregor’s breakthrough movie Trainspotting, after he finishes the Olympics, though McGregor admitted to having not read any script yet.
