Exclusive: Cult Actress Linnea Quigley to Direct First Film

Veteran actress and cult movie legend Linnea Quigley seeks help to helm first directorial effort

The term “scream queen” gets thrown around plenty in reference to women in working as actors in genre films and it’s a somewhat tired handle. Truly. Especially when discussing performers who have devoted their entire lives to their craft and their fans. Like iconic cult movie actress Linnea Quigley, for example. There is so much more to Quigley than just shrieking and stripping, though in her near 40 years in front of the camera, she has done both better than most of her peers.

But now Quigley, the lady whose gyrating, brain-eating punk ghoul from 1985’s Return of the Living Dead is the stuff of legend, has decided to take the belated step behind the camera and direct her first movie. It makes sense. The lady has starred in over one hundred films and knows the business, both its highs and lows, better than anyone. The film she’s planning is a documentary, a film called Extras! and she needs help from fans to make the dream come true.

From the official Extras! press release:

After moving to Los Angeles in her early 20s, Quigley earned money on films as an “extra” – a person who appears, usually with no dialogue or dramatic significance to the final picture. (For example, an undistinguished person walking around the background of a street scene.) As her fame increased the actress secured additional income with appearances at horror conventions. It was at these events she began to meet fans who would go to great lengths to appear as an extra in any variety of low-budget features, often with little-to-no pay. Over the last 3 decades Quigley has continued to see some of these same faces and consistently meet new ones. Without the goal of stardom, she has come to wonder, “What makes these people tick?” Extras! will follow these people, plus interview actors who began their careers as extras, but desired to carried their first steps to the next tier.

To raise the $16,000 budget Quigley needs to produce the documentary, alongside executive producer Jason Paul Collum (Screaming in High Heels) and his B+Boy Productions, LLC., she has launched a Kickstarter campaign. Donations begin at $5 with a “thank you” and go up to $2,000 which would land you an “executive producer” credit. The in-between donations can get backers a variety of gifts like DVDs, books, rare autographed photos, additional producer credits, and a one-on-one tarot reading by phone with Quigley. (*Note: Donations are only charged to credit/debit cards and gifts are delivered only if the crowd-funding campaign is successful by October 15, 2016.)

To donate or simply get more information about Extras! go to Quigley and Collum’s Kickstarter page. We wish Lady Q the best of luck with this project.
