Editor Chris Lebenzon Talks Frankenweenie, Dark Shadows

Two upcoming Tim Burton projects

Longtime Tim Burton editor Chris Lebenzon talked about Frankenweenie at the ACE Eddie Awards. He says they are currently storyboarding the film, which will be shot in stop-motion format, in black-and-white, and in 3D.

“It is a very sensitive movie, it speaks to a lot of our childhood fantasies,” Lebenzon said, “The theme is the same — the boy brings his dog back to life. In this one he gets the idea from a certain place, he has a lot of friends who do the same thing, they’re in a big contest. I think it has grown to be more of a feature world.”

Disney will release Frankenweenie, featuring the voices of Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Landau, Charlie Tahan and Atticus Shaffer, on October 5, 2012.

Lebenzon also briefly talked about Burton’s Dark Shadows adaptation. He starts work on the project in May and says it’s “terrific. They got it right.” He added that, “It’s a relationship movie. It’s a lot of interaction of characters, from past and present.”

Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter are set to star in that film.
