Favrea’s Cowboys Taps Alien-esque Horror

“Nightmarish quality of the film”

Jon Favreau’s Cowboys & Aliens isn’t something we’re going to cover regularly here on Shock, but I don’t mind turning your attention to a few interesting comments from the director regarding the tone.

If you planned on heading into theaters this summer to check out the film, you might get a dose of horror in this western/sci-fi brew. Favreau told EW, regarding the making of the film, “Sometimes it’s fun to play things as thriller, sometimes verging on horror, like Alien or Aliens.”

He added “I don’t want to get into too much detail of what it is specifically, but it’s an aspect of showing the nightmarish quality of the film. There are heavy stakes and heavy stuff is going on there.”

Cowboys & Aliens, which opens June 28, stars Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell and delivers on just what the title implies: Cowboys versus alien invaders.
