Fox Searchlight Launches Ticket Program for In America

To address the concerns of Academy and guild members and critics organizations, Fox Searchlight Pictures is launching a national ticket program for 5-time Oscar® nominee Jim Sheridan’s In America. Searchlight will provide complimentary run of engagement tickets to all members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the British Academy of Film & Television Arts, the Producers Guild of America, the Screen Actors Guild Nominating Committee and the Writers Guild of America; as well as the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and critics groups.

Members of the organizations listed will receive two free tickets to any In America screening at participating U.S. and Canadian playdate theatres. Platform release of the film will begin November 26 and expand through Christmas Day. Tickets will be valid from opening day through February 20, 2004.

This program is in addition to the In America sneak preview screenings that began in Los Angeles in early October and will continue to be held each Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the ArcLight, AMC 14 Century City, Sherman Oaks Galleria and Promenade Woodland Hills until the release of the film. The screenings are open to the public at regular ticket price and free to AMPAS and guild members with their guild cards. The sneaks will run up until the November 26 release of the film.

Said Fox Searchlight Pictures President of Marketing Nancy Utley, “The screener ban has posed some logistical challenges to guild members and critics nationwide but we are committed to doing everything in our power to address their concerns and provide solutions so that everyone can experience Jim Sheridan’s heartwarming film.”

Added Steve Gilula, President of Distribution for Fox Searchlight: “We want to thank all of our partners in exhibition who are working with us to ensure this very special film receives the attention it deserves.”

From master storyteller Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, In The Name of the Father), who directed the film and co-wrote the script with his daughters Naomi and Kirsten Sheridan, comes an emotionally uplifting tale of an Irish family finding its soul In America. As seen through the eyes and camera lens of 11-year-old Christy, a child wise beyond her years, is the coming of age of her parents Johnny and Sarah (Paddy Considine, Samantha Morton). To Christy and her younger sister Ariel (played by real life sister Emma Bolger), America is a place of magic where anything is possible. To their parents, it represents a place to begin anew. Carried by the girls’ youthful hope and faith, the family finds the heart to live and love again. Together they find home.
