Today marks the 20th anniversary of the official launch of ComingSoon.net, which made its debut online on August 27, 1998!
In that time frame we’ve seen the movie business change dramatically countless times from the tragic fall of the video store and the meteoric rise of Netflix, to the birth of the modern cinematic universe, James Cameron’s long in-development Avatar debuted in theaters, The Terminator came back three times, Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy made movie history, and we saw the return of Star Wars (twice!). It’s been a wild ride for that entire time and we’re so happy to still be a part of the online landscape of film news and to be a part of your daily routine! We wanted to take this time to extend a wish of thanks and appreciation to our readers, fans, and from everyone that has supported us throughout the years!
We’d also like to extend a huge thank you to the teams at Mandatory Media, all of the movie studios, television networks, game companies, and most of all you, the readers that continue to visit us and go through the journey of the magic of movies with us every day.
We would also like to take this time to extend a sincere thanks to the site’s founder Mirko Parlevliet, who created the site and ran it as Editor-in-Chief for many, many years. Without his dedication and love for ComingSoon, and movies themselves, some of us wouldn’t even be here now. Thanks Mirko! It was a privilege to work with you!
We’ll see all of you at the movies because after all, you can’t watch the trailers without seeing Coming Soon!
